Are You Surrounded By Others, But Still Feel Alone?

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week (9th -15th May 2022) hosted by the Mental Health Foundation.

The theme this year is loneliness - a theme that I am certain everyone has been able to relate to at some point in their life.

Although loneliness is widespread, there are times when we underestimate the impact that it has on our mental health.

The COVID-19 Pandemic shone a light on the detrimental impact that loneliness has on our physical and mental wellbeing; however, it is important to acknowledge that despite the removal of physical restrictions, we can be surrounded by others and still feel desperately alone.

If we feel unable to share our honest thoughts and feelings with loved ones at home, or we do not feel psychologically safe around our colleagues at work - no matter how many people surround us, we are still alone!

We can be surrounded by others and still feel desperately alone.

Humans are social beings, who need to have positive relationships and connections in order to have optimum mental health and wellbeing.

It is essential that we take tangible actions to address the impact of loneliness on our wellbeing.

Always seek support if your loneliness is so intense that it is preventing you from living a normal life. Remember that whatever you are going through, you can contact the Samaritans, any time, from any phone, for free on: 116 123.
